Before installation, they are convex. During install, they are put in the hole against the shoulder, and whacked with a hammer. This flattens the convex, thereby expanding the diameter to a tight fit. If it still has significant dome, it could use another hit. Don't make it concave though, that will shrink the diaqmeter, and loosen it....
Anybody else ever notice the similarities between Barrs leaks and rabbit droppings? Must be a pretty good mark up in that product....
