We had a county wide water rescue team there on Tuesday morning (about 4 am). FEMA was no where in sight, they were about a half mile from the superdome. They did all they could for over a week and came home. The current stories about firefighters and rescue workers having to take classes by FEMA, are not stories of them doing rescues. FEMA asked for approx. 2000, 2-man teams to go to the gulf to help in record taking and information duties. These sexual harrasment classes and crap you here about is really just a quick orientation by FEMA that they have to give before just letting a bunch of volunteer workers start wondering streets. There job there is to collect information about people, their addresses and to give out information about contacting FEMA, no rescues missions, no food drives, no other duties except those.
As for whose to blame about Wal-Mart trucks being turned around, well, Mayor Ray Nagin told his people to go to the Super Dome, and the convention center, as HE said food and water would be there, I think the water should have been there first, not three days into it. I don't know who turned them around, but I do know they should have been there before Katrina not after. THat is blame for the Mayor and the Govenor of that state.
THis whole disaster has shown alot of weaknesses in not only local, but federal agencies and there preparedness and response to these types of catastrophes. I think most blame lies within the State of Louisiana though, even though FEMA did a horrible job of getting there and doing anything. Bush can't control every single detail of this nation, and people who want to blame him for everything from high cost of fuel, to 9-11-01, to Katrina, and everything else, need to realize, there are more people in Washington, then just Bush. But those that blame him too prolly just do so out of spite or because they are just that naive.
