How probable is it to have twisted Pinion Splines?

I was able to remove the front flange from the pinion with a little fore on the puller (the seal was more work). But I've already broke one 6" puller trying to remove the rear flange, and I've used PB Blaster and heat, and have only gotten it to more about an eighth of an inch.

I can see where some one has used a rectangular (~ 1/4" x 3/8" shape) on the flange to I believe drive it on. this is the same axle there the short shaft was broke at the splines (http://m37.wawii.com/images/DSC04151_BrokeAxelEnd.JPG).

What do I do/try next? Any advice?
