tranny top question

I am reassembling the tranny top from a non synchro (1952) PW tranny. I need help from a knowledgeable person.
Through the shifter shaft, within the shift tower, there is a "first speed stop". How is this adjusted, is there specs on how far it is screwed in?
I see it is involved with using reverse.
