a couple of questions for the pros

Been putting the wc back together and I wanted to set it up as a 6 volt electrical system. My Generator seems shot. I can tell that the bushings are shot in the thing. Rather than go to the trouble of having it rebuilt I was thinking of replacing it with another. Can any 6 volt generator work or is there an issue of negative/positive grounding. Also I was looking at the Oil pressure reliefe piston in the 230 and it seems to be stuck back in there. Is there a trick to getting it out?
