Do you know how to use Plastigauge? Not difficult or expensive, but, in my opinion, indispensible for this operation. Go to your local professional auto parts (often NAPA) store and ask for help.
I believe the standard clearance is 0.0015 - 0.0005 for rod bearings - you can barely feel that with assembly lube.
