Axle Tube Date Stencil

The date stencilled on the back side of the front left axle tube, what does it refer to? Axle build date? Installation date? Truck assembly date? Other? Anyone know? I'm just curious. My front differential housing will be repainted soon, and I will re-stencil the date back on, but I am interested what the date refers to.
