In my 2002, 3500, I have 4.10's behind the Cummins, the fuel mileage is close to Pauls and I do not lack for top end speed (90+)with stock 235/85-16 tires. It has a 47RE, the 48RE is supposed to be much better. I'm nearly 9,000 lbs empty because of the utility body, with the boxes full (which is always) I'm at 10,500 before I put anything in the bed, or tow. The transmission has worked flawlessly. I'd recommend either trans, depending upon your use and what type of traffic you most drive in. (I would never have a manual in stop and go LA traffic, but a manual works well for Paul). For towing and and mountain driving, the 4.10 is the rear gear to choose. The higher ratio 3.73 may actually hurt your fuel economy if you tow a lot or run larger than stock tires.
