pressure plate question

How do you know when a pressure plate is bad. When I tore down the truck Wc 1/2 ton the disk was about 1/2 used up. I am on a tight budget and if I can reuse the pressure plate with a new disk and to bearing I would like to. Do they make a rebuilding kit for a 10 inch pressure plate?
