I have different colors on different components, so I powdered coated and painted before assembly, makes it harder to assemble and you have to be neater with that gasket sealer. But it makes the motor stand out when done! If you're not building a show piece, or don't care about the detailing, paint it afterwards. I had no options, it's hard to impossible to powder coat an assembled motor...ha!ha!
