I keep hearing bad stories about the transmissions in the pre 2001 models. I checked Consumer Reports and they showed the transmission being reported as a problem by owners until 2001.

Actual owners I have talked to have not mentioned any trouble with the tranny, so I am not sure how common the problem is.
