Kind of off topic but truck related...Power Stroke woes

My buddies 2005 Power Stroke with under 5,000 miles just broke down for the third time. Every time it was on a camping trip hundereds of miles from home. The first time he lost the tranny cooler line (held on by a pinch clamp) The second time it was a oil pump sensor. The third time it the engine computer failed. My question to you guys is are there good fixes for the electronics problems? The tranny problem he fixed on his own.
