Factory stamped wheels have an slight arch to them at the bolt circle which compresses upon tightening the lugs. This tends to act as a lock nut for the lugs and keep them tight. When you build wheels out of flat plate, or even in some poor quality aftermarket wheels, you will not have this feature and the lug nuts will need to be tightened with a torque wrench and checked every day until they "set" and remain tight.
I must admit that a very young MoparNorm was passed by his own tires a few times before he learned that.....= )
