The August edition of Smithsonian magazine has an article about building and testing the first atomic bomb. You can make out a WC54 and a WC53 in a photo of Trinity base camp.
Here's a quote from the article: "Oppenheimer [director of the Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory] had spent three days and nights bouncing around the barren, dry valleys of southern New Mexico in a three-quarter-ton Army truck, searching for a suitably isolated stretch of wilderness where the bomb could be safely tested." "For Oppenheimer, it was a rare opportunity to savor the Spartan desert he so loved."
