We did that in 1959. It took 6 weeks, and there was no "Cabo" as we know it now, just a collection of huts and the foundation of the first hotel was being placed. Hoisted onto the deck of a cattle freighter to the Mexican mainland and up to Arizona for the return trip. The only pavement was the shoreline at La Paz and a small stretch at Ensenada.
