OT... Navistar 6.9 Diesel....

Anyone have any epirence with the older Navistar diesels? I found a good runner with a 5 speed ZF trans that a fellow locally wants to get rid of for free. I was thinking of putting it in the truck pictured as the 6 cylinder is starting to act up, and when I drained the oil in the transmission what was left of the syncros came out in a beautifull gold colored surup.
