The only thing I have done after removing the piece from the tank is to wash it off with hot water. I would recommend using a pressure washer with hot water if you wanted to be very thorough . Basically you are trying to remove any soap material , loose paint and converted rust.
I am now looking for a larger tank to do doors and fenders.
I think this is better than sand blasting. Sand blasting can peen the metal over and hide deep pitted rust. This process does not do that. But I am left with some black metal at the bottom of my fenders. If a second dip in the tank does not remove the stuff I may do a light pass with the blaster. I sure have nice shiny metal where the paint used to be.
