I lost the brakes on my Fargo so I thought I would just bleed the brakes. However a number of the bleeders were gone...and the rear brakes tended to lock up when reversing. So I pulled off a front and rear brake drum to have a look. Turns out the rear brakes look like they have been replaced...drum is 11 inches (front is 10"), the rear has two half cylinders and twin leading shoe brakes. The front look ok and have a single wheel cylinder as shown in the shop manual.
The parts and shop books do not show these twin leading shoes in the back (or front). So I am guessing someone replaced the backing plates. Does that sound reasonable?
Does anyone have 2 proper backing plates for Dodge 40-47 half ton trucks for sale?
Was replacement of the entire rear brakes a common modification? I am pretty sure these are not original.
