Bell housing bolts

I pulled the tranny today on the 48'b1. The tranny part was relatively easy I thought, however I need to pull the bell housing in order to pull the flywheel. Is there a trick to getting at the bolts on the top????

Also when I pulled the tranny I noticed that the input shaft is loose, and I vaguely remember something about this not being a bad thing but I'm not to sure. Is is supposed to wiggle a little for alignment purposes or not???
