You may be refering to a Cushman Trackster, built in the 70's up to more current times, but now discontinued. I looked at buying one in the mid 80's. They were tough tracked vehicles. Niagara Mohawk, the power company in nothern NY used a lot of them for power line work. They came in a few different models;
Offroad tracks, wide tracks for winter and an amphibious model. I forget the engine, but they had hydrostatic trannys with a T stick for control. Push the T stick forward or back to go in those directions, twist the T stick to steer. Also Snow plows, post augars and a lot of other commercial stuff was available. These were not toy atv's, they were a wrok machine. DO a Google search for Cushman Trackster and you will kick up over a 1000 hits. Yup, still wish I bought the one I looked at. The dealer demo'ed her and went up a hill so steep, I thought we were going to flip over backwards, she never skipped a beat.
