Some of you know I’m rebuilding a ’55 270 Super Red Ram hemi for my ’54 M-37... and some of you don’t care! (I think I’d have been better off going with a 426 Hemi as there’s actually some parts available out there for them!) I’ve found a few places that deal with these old baby-hemi parts. Hemi Hot-Heads sells harmonic-balancers for these hemis. A few forums back, it was eventually shown that there was no original harmonic balancer on these engines. I e-mailed Hemi Hot-Heads and asked about their harmonic-balancers they sell, their reply was to call them and they’d explain why I need one and that it was too involved to go into in e-mail.
Now, my question is; If Dodge didn’t put them on from the factory – why do I need one?!?! I have a funny feeling this is a sales-pitch to get $300.00+ dollars out of me that I don’t have, especially for a part I don’t really need?!? Any thoughts on this?! I have no idea why I’d need one, other than the fact I thought every engine ever made had one, but I don’t want this thing to go belly-up on me either after sinking this much money in it. I haven’t heard their sales-pitch yet, but I know I’ll probably fall for it if I hear their spiel. I just wanted to get some feedback from MoPar folks before I call them (you just KNOW they’re going to push the sale!).
Thanks for any help/opinions/suggestions/advice!
Dana
