Rings are as generic as any car part- diameter, thickness, material, edge detail. Moly would cost more. And since the moly is applied into a groove in the outside edge of the ring, you have less surface to wear, and that counters the advantage of having the moly transfer to the cylinder surface. And, detonation can blow the moly right out of it's groove. Chrome rings need to have the cylinders bored and honed while using a torque plate on the block, the holes have to be EXACTLY round or they won't seat. I've only used cast iron...
