Fuel pump heat shield and fan shroud

I have read somewhere that one better have a heat shield between the manifold and fuel pump as the 230 is sensitive to vapor locks. Checked and mine does not have one. How critical is it?

Also, my truck came without a fan shroud. Does running without one adversely affect the cooling of the motor?
