I talked with my friend and fellow Dodger Greg Duffy today for the first time since his bad accident back in January of this year. Greg is the owner of Duffy's Chimney Service, yes, he's an old fashioned 'Chimney Sweep'! His official work truck is a nicely restored 1950s M-43 ambulance! He has attended the Idaho Trail Ride every year since it's inception! On January 7th, he suffered the Chimney Sweeps most dreaded accident...He fell over 15 feet off of a roof while doing his work. After being 'life-flighted' to Boise Idaho, he underwent several surgeries including a broken ankle, other broken bones and suffered a major head injury. His prognosis was not good..in fact they did not think he would pull through! Well, he managed to survive the ordeal and is still not back 100% but he has recovered his memory, and called me today to say hi and see if it was OK that he joins us on the trail ride without his Dodge...His doctors have recommended he take it easy for at least 6 more months, as his head injury was very severe and he is still using a cane to walk...I assured him that in any condition he is very welcome to be there for the annual ride!! He wanted me to pass on to his other Dodge friends that he is 'hell bent' for a full recovery!! After he was flown out of the remote area he was working..his M-43 languished at the job site for a month or so.. then his apprentice volunteered to drive it back to Boise for him...unfortunately, the M-43 had some kind of problem about half way home and ended up being towed home. Greg said today he is not sure what is wrong with the truck as his strength is not back 100% but he is secretly hoping the engine died so he will have an excuse to install a 360 V8!!! Anyway, I wanted every one to know that he is alive and on the mend!! Another Dodger lives and is able to tell a remarkable story!! Get well soon Greg!!
