Ryan,
What I did with my '52 was this:
I visited a few machine shops. THe first one that was recommended as a good operation did not have the machines to really do a flathead engine. For example he was only set up for overhead valve engines it turned out.
I asked around in the antique car community and got a name for an older man. This guy did have the proper equipment and experience on flatheads. He did a great job. He is in Maryland and is "slow", but is meticulous and good.
As far as the transfer case, I found a transmission mechanic who was experienced in 4X4's. He had never worked on an NP 200 TC, but I got the Army manual for M-37 drivetrains from VPW (I recommend that highly) and that was all he needed as many systems are the same as the civilian. I also told him I would order all the parts he needed (bearings, seals, etc). He did a very good job.
The tranny was much simpler, and a mechanic friend helped me rebuid it with new bearings and seals.
I would advise also perusing GOrdon's forum as it tends to go into more technical detail there.
