No dealer shops are worthy of trusting to do any turbo work and if your ISB has a Holset with a compressor wheel starting to grenade, you might as well consider it junk. If it's like our 275+ fleet of M11's that had cast compressor wheels, shortly after the cold side starts to loose fin tips the shaft breaks between the backside of the compressor wheel and the thrust collar. Not a common problem on lower HP engines but on the turbos that have to work harder they seem to puke like clockwork. If you've got a cast wheel and don't want a repeater then a machined wheel is the answer. This symptom of compressor wheel erosion may only be found on the light duty engines that have had significant HP upgrades so Cummins might have no explanation for the failure. They do know about this problem on the larger engines and require the machined compressor wheel for certain HP ratings. If it happens again after the warrantee is up, call Hatch & Kirk in Ballard to see if they can get a machined wheel.
