ok.
after taking my wc-12 1/2 ton for its maiden voyage of over 70 miles one way this weekend, I noticed after returning home that the rear diff was VERY HOT.. Whats hot? It seemed really hot..hotter than I would think is normal. too hot to hold my hand on the rear diff cover or any part of the 3rd memeber for more than a second or too.. IT was hot..
Now, with that said, I recently purchased from a private party a rebuilt M37 rear diff with 4:89 gears.. I installed it doing all the proper things like three gaskets, etc, etc.
Now, I drove this truck non-stop 70 miles home.
Today, in Texas, its 65-75 degress or so.
Is this diff getting too hot for a reason? Is there a problem here?
For a gauge, I also crawled under the truck and felt the transfer case and tranny. Both were hot, but not as hot as the rear diff.
the transfer was the coolest, I could keep my hand on it like 5-7 seconds before being uncomfortable.
the tranny was hot too, and maybe close to the rear diff , but not as hot.. it was hot enough to only hold my hand on it a couple of seconds.
is this all normal or what? whats is you guys opinion here?
thanks all,
Dave
