would that be in reference to the crankcase ventilation? if so the early engines had just an open tube called a draft tube. later on they used a pcv ( positive crankcase ventilation) valve that usually was on the valve cover(?) connected to a larger size tube fitting on the base of the carb. the non pcv carbs would not have this fitting. i'm just speculating on weather this is what they are referring to. good luck, jim .
