Sounds to me like he has a 243 CI Mitsubishi engine. They used them around 77-79 They are supposedly good engines, but very sluggish and slow. The trans behind it is probably a NP435, a 3 speed, or if automatic a 727. Probably be a NP203 transfer case. Would be a neato conversion for your WDX, if you were to send me a pic, I can probably idenfity it for you. But if you can get it reasonable, buy it. but the power would be very close to your 230 in your WDX Now tho.
