I picked up a 1961 W300 for parts, the other day I noticed that the transmission cover or doghouse(in the cab) had a third opening about the same length and width as the opening for the twin stick transfer case controls. It is near the drivers side of the doghouse, and to the rear. The paint looks to be the original off-white color, and never repainted, likewise the extra opening on the doghouse does not look like something a previous owner cut out himself. The only thing that I think it would have been for is a PTO lever, but the truck has a dash mounted PTO pull cable. Any ideas on what the extra slot was for??
