12V Regulator

My voltage regulator is starting to work intermittantly and I was wondering if anyone out there new of a local source such as NAPA that carried these and what would be the part ## ? It is a 47 WDX that has been converted to 12V so I need a 12V, 35 amp regulator. Also is it possible to run one stronger (50 amp regulator and generator) without damaging the stock amp meter? Thanks
