Here is what I sent Summit for some recommendations and what the responded with:
Summit Racing,
I’m re-building a Dodge M37 Military Truck (Power Wagon variant – m37.wawii.com) for off-road use. In this process I’m replacing the 230 cu.in. L-6 with a Mopar V-8. The V-8 is a 318, with a hydraulic bell housing and NP-435 4 speed (out of a Dodge w200 4x4). It will be mated to the M’s stock NP- 201 divorced transfer case and run through the stock axels with 5.83 gears, and then to 39-40” tires.
I want to build the engine on a budget, not have to dump a lot of money into a in-frequently used truck, but need to make it reliable. I’m looking for as much low end torque, and as flat of a curve as possible.
I want a Cam that will deliver this and still provide a nice “rumble” as well. In addition to the Cam, I want the Mopar electronic ignition and distributor and fuel injection.
Could you please recommend a Cam, Intake/fuel-Injection, and Electronic Ignition? Also I will need either a short nose or electric water pump? Any other options I should consider or that you think I will need (after I re-build the engine) are appreciated.
Thanks,
Will
William,
Thanks for writing. The first thing that we will get to is the camshaft. Unfortunately, you can have a rumble from the engine, or you can have low end torque. There is really no way to have both. For the most part, I would suggest the Edelbrock Performer Package for your application. This is a good combination of driveability and performance. That package will yield excellent torque for you. I would suggest the parts that can be found at the following links.

For the water pump, there really is no short or long designation. Chrysler really only used one style of water pump. The corect one can be found at the following link. http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=DCC%2D5249558&N=100&Ntk=PartSearch&Ntt=dcc5249558
If you do end up placing this order online, I would ask that you please enter my salesman ID of 1314 in the designated box.
Thanks,
