Don't use 1/2 ton axle shafts.

Wrong. WC 1/2 ton axle shafts have 1-5/16 - 16 spline ends. WC 3/4 ton axle shafts have 1-3/8 - 16 spline ends. WC 1/2 ton axles are weaker and have slightly smaller splines than WC 3/4 ton axles shafts, so they may eventually strip out if used in a 3/4 ton third member. See TM9-1808C at pages 14-15.

This is old information that John Zentmyer graciously put into a book 23 years ago so it can be passed down to newer generations of Dodge 4X4 truck owners. Again, I highly recommend this book to anyone doing an axle swap or for simply for your reading pleasure.
