Getting closer w/ WC54 start-up. Need more help!

I found out the tank is pretty full of gas especially after I added 6 more gallons. HOWEVER, when I take off the fuel tube that is connected to the front of the tank, I put a screwdriver in the hole and it won't go in!!!!!! Is there a "goop" blockage or what the heck is keeping the gas IN the tank and not letting it out the tube????? THX in advance.
