I'm going to have to build a 1940 VC front axle up from a kit of parts so that will come in handy.
A few extra points though;
1. The original 1940 military VC and VF front axles did have the same bearings top and bottom, 1941 - onward went for the cheapskate bushing on top / bearing on bottom setup instead, so all you are doing is going back to what it should have been all along.
2. If you don't have a puller, you can cut the bottom bearing off with a grinder - just use all the right safety equipment, etc, etc.
3. Military VC and WC half ton trucks had one bronze bushing for the shaft in the steering knuckle only. Three-quarter ton WC trucks had similar bushings in the trunnion socket and the steering knuckle so both sides of the drive axle assembly were bushed.
