Standing at the rear of the tractor the serial number of the crawler will be on the back case below the fuel tank on the left side(might be slight behind the pony motor), sometimes if the crawler has lost it's alumiumn tag it will be stanmped close by the area, the engine arrangement also has a serial number tag that will be on the left side of the engine close to the starter with a similar tag, post a picture of it, if it has 4 cylinder is it a d7 something, if it has 6 cylinder got to be a d8, usually something like d8 1r 1h 2u 13a 14a for 8"s and 7m 3t 17a for the 7's will be the first letters followed by the 1 to 4 digit serial number, good luck, what is on it's back and does it run?
