Sometime in the early 70's real trucks with real frames went out of production. If I really want to haul some weight I would use my '68 W300. I bought a short box '03 Quad cab for the same reason I think they build them. They are heavy duty highway vehicles that look like trucks. Mine has a cab high shell that makes it look like a Dodge suburban and there's plenty of room for my two labradors to go with me. There have been volumes written on this forum about new versus old trucks. No matter what anyone says, "they don't build 'em like they used to". But I can't get 21-23 mpg out of my W300 and I certainly wouldn't drive it more than 30 miles at a time. JH
