Howdy, I’ve been having problems with my transmission (NP435) so I decided this weekend would be a good time to swap in my spare trans. I’ve also had problems with my rebuilt pressure plate, so I bought a new Ram 404 pressure plate to install. Put in the new pressure plate and trans and the pedal was unbelievably stiff. Forced the pedal to the floor. Actually damaged the trans front bearing retainer (the part the throw out bearing rides on) to the point where the throw out bearing wouldn’t slide. Put the retainer from the old trans on the new trans, reinstalled and pedal still stiff. Pulled out the clutch and pressure plate and bench tested it with an extra flywheel and fat threaded rod. It worked fine. Reinstalled clutch, without trans installed I could fully depress pedal with my hand. With the trans partially install clutch depressed easily to allow final seating of trans. With trans bolted home the pedal is stiff again. Apparently it has something to do with the input shaft being in the pilot bearing. The only parts that are different are the trans and pressure plate. I didn’t try installing the old trans. Not sure my old body could take any more today. Any suggestions greatly appreciated…..Paul
