I have a tree farm, along with some pasture for the horses. Among my primary crop (which is loblolly pine and various oak species), I planted about 50 black locust as an experiment to help fertilize the adjacent black walnuts with nitrogen.
Locust are OK in the woods, but I ended up cutting them down near pastures as they do not hold up well to storms, and they put out A LOT of long thorns, which play HAVOC with tractor tires.
Great for fire wood and posts though.
