I bought a 2000 Dodge Dakota Quad cab new and drove it for 76000 miles within a 2 year period before I rolled it at 70 mph We went over one and a quarter times and when the vehicle was flopped back over onto the wheels, two of which had flat tires, the windshield was smashed the fenders, hood and bed were smashed in and, yet, the doors opened and closed just like when the truck was new. I got 19k for it from the insurance and bought my '03 Ram with Cummins. Incidentally, the Dakota was purchased by a group of rebuilders in the Spokane area, put back together and painted, and someone here in my town bought it. He tracked me down because he found a deposit receipt with my name on it. He loves the truck, and was surprised to hear it had once been totaled.
I guess there are several different sides to the "new" vehicle story. JH
