I've never seen one done, it could probably be done, but the machine work and time would be alot. If some one would try this the crank and block would have to be "matched" to each other. The machine shop would have to machine each thrust bearing surface in the block just right so that each thrust bearing carried the same amount of load, and then match the crank to it. Once this is done, then you would have to wonder what will happen to those tolerances when the engine is under a load, crankshaft twist, block flex, heat expansion, all of this might put a bind on the crank, heat up the oil and take out the bearings also. It would help the problem if it could be done.
