HERE's the SKINNY on WINCHES!!1940 and 1941 Military Dodges (1/2 ton) used the MU model Braden Winch. (built for an angled mounting) The declutch lever is on the passenger side. The WW2 Internationals used the MU-3 Braden (Built for a flat frame rail mounting, no angle) that also had the declutch lever on the passenger side. The 3/4 Ton WW2 Dodges as well as post WW3 Power Wagons used the MU-2 Braden (Built for a greater angle mounting) and it has the declutch lever on the driver or gearbox side.
Pre WW2 1 1/2 Ton Dodges used a Gar-Wood or Heil 15,000 lb winch that had the declutch on the passenger side. (Looks like a MU on steroids!) The M-series (M-37 & M-43) Used the LU-4 Braden (Aluminum)(flat frame rail mounting) and it has the declutch on the passenger side, The Civvy Power Wagons in the 60's and 70's used the LU-2 Aluminum)(flat frame rail mounting) Braden it too has the declutch on the passenger side. And finally..the W-500s used the MU-2 (same as post war PWs) on them! SO THERE!!!
