Hey, you can get WITHIN 3mm with a weld arc? you are doing better than me.
I use one of those welding masks that darkens automatically and have actually managed to weld since I bought it. I need to upgrade my MIG though as it's old and tired and I'm fed up watching TV programmes where they weld chassis up from components with just a flick of the wrist.
Rust, on a WC 53 ? Hmm, central body line mostly. Expect to find some lead on the side over the battery box where the infil panel from the spare wheel dent that was in the 1/2 ton shell is usually badly filled.
The front door apertures will have cracked at the lower corners, and will typically have been brazed and the factory and then leaded, so you have to melt out the lead AND grind out the brazing before you can MIG them solid again.
