Hey guys, I'm hoping someone here can help me with my problem. I have a 1990 Dodge W250 with Cummins Diesel. A few nights ago my steering got very tight, then before heading home I lost power steering completely. Pulled it into the shop to take a look, shut it off, and power steering fluid was pouring out the cap on the reservoir. I assume the power steering pump is bad. Pulled it out, but can't get it apart? This is a gear driven unit, not one with a pulley, and I have 2 brake boosters attached (or what I assume are brake boosters). Went to the parts store to pick up a new one and NO ONE seems to have ever seen anything like it???? Books don't show it, computer has no idea, and people I show it to, even dodge guys, look puzzled. Some shops say there are 2 models, one for trucks with intercoolers, one for trucks without....mine does not have one. So rather than get the whole set-up I got a new pump and reservior that supposedly swaps right into the truck, thinking I could get the gear and bearings off the other side and attach them to the new pump...not so. I was able to press the gear off but can't get the other parts apart (offset bearing to push the fluid out, with 2 pieces pressed on top of it)?
What I now want to do is get a whole new set-up, pump, reservior, and shaft with new gear, but no one seems to have one, or be able to get one, including the dodge dealership!!!!! If anyone has a lead on parts for my truck or any ideas on how to fix the problem please let me know. Only thing I can think to do is unbolt the top of the shaft to see if the wheel spins freely because I've heard there are problems with the tilt wheel models? I'm at a loss now...I need this truck back on the road asap.....thanks in advance...John
