We use two waste oil furnaces in our shop. We use all types of waste oil but hydraulic and ATF are the premium fuels. We mix the oil with water ( about 1/2 gal. water/used anti-freeze to 4 1/2 gal. oil)to get better atomiztion. This makes a very clean burning mixture. We are working on adapting a conventional oil furnace gun system so we can mix larger batches of oil at a time.
All our oil is presently screened through fine mesh, but the gun system will allow and in-line filter as well as a thermostat. As it is now, the furnaces are started and can be throttled up or down, but not turned on and off the way a thermostatically controlled furnace is controlled. This works fine for a large building but may be problematical in smaller applications
