As long as it seals where it needs to, the center doesn't need to be covered. Many carb gaskets are 'universal'. You'll find extra holes or slots, extra material you don't need, extra gaskets in the kit for different models.
Hint: if you oil one side of the gaskets, it won't get stuck and you'll be able to disassemble the carb again without wrecking the gasket. It's a good idea on these because the float needle often needs to be re-adjusted to get it right.
