Aperture is that 50" square gap in that back, yes.
My tired WC 36 was 2" out of square when I got it, and showed signs of having been rolled and repaired at least twice (some driving for a School Bus - the roads round Booker, Texas must have been rough) and the rear doors could not make up the difference, so I jacked it 4" as shown and let it spring back till the diagonal measurement was exactly even.
From experience of fitting these things (I used to inspect mechanical fitting work in a previous existence...) I could see that the limit of the difference between the diagonals on that aperture that the liftgate / tailgate could accomodate was about 1" in total. I got into the habit of checking the diagonals on all these things before I started reskinning the tailgate, as it is easier to get the diagonals right, and then it's a lot easier to skin the tailgate and just adjust it to fit the truck as you go through the skinning and repair process.
Let's face it, a Mercedes would probably be within a millimetre - whatever that is, but I'm not that boring.
