Spitfire Engine Identification

Would anyone know a way to figure out additional info from the serial numbers on a Spitfire engine? On the top behind the "Spitfire" logo is "870102-2". On the bottom left of the block (driver's side) is "870729-5". I don't know the type, age or source of the engine. My dad had it stored in his garage, and he passed away last summer.
