I rebuilt a 428 Ford engine about 15 years ago. The engine came from the factory with an external balancer. We put it back together with the original balancer, and had a horrific vibration that did not go away. I ended up tearing the engine down and having the crank assembly balanced, as Norm suggests above. That engine ran until 2 years ago and the failure was not related to the crank assembly. It was the best money I ever spent in a rebuild. JH
