M37 daily Driver???

I just bought a 53 m37. Runs kinda rough but all that can easly be taken care of. Im a highschool student who needs it to drive the interstate in order to get to school and back, but i also love offroading and most of the time not in school would be offroad most likly in the sand. Is there a way I can keep my stock gearing and not get killed on the interstate? By the way this has to be reliable since its my primary vehical.
